Piano Day 2024

A unique celebration was born in the spring of 2015–Piano Day. Conceived by the visionary German composer Nils Frahm and FLOAT PR, this annual event emerged as a tribute to the instrument that has woven its melodies into the fabric of human history for centuries, inviting enthusiasts from all walks of life to join in and immerse themselves in the diverse tapestry of piano-related projects.

Taking place on the 88th day of the year, a nod to the instrument's iconic 88 keys, Piano Day has since blossomed into a global phenomenon, with live concerts and digital gatherings igniting the passion of piano lovers worldwide. As we embrace the enchanting allure of the piano, let us embark on a journey to explore the beauty and significance of this cherished instrument.

Two Piano Day events will be held in March 2024, in Melbourne, Australia and London.

Melbourne

Melbourne's event is held at Tempo Rubato, Brunswick on March 25th, and showcases the works of Rose Riebl, a post-classical composer whose work extends her intimate relationship with the piano into a realm of more fragile, soulful and transcendent works that guide the listener into vulnerable emotional spaces. Also joining for the event will be Emily ‘Mirla’ Harrison. Mirla is a talented pianist, screen composer and neoclassical artist. Mirla’s last appearance at Tempo Rubato (September 2023) was described as pure magic, and featured her debut album Solitaire (The Virtue of Patience), a piece commissioned by the Hush Foundation.

More information about Melbourne's event (including tickets) can be found on FLOAT's website here.

London

London's event is held at The National Gallery on March 28th, and showcases Arthur Jeffes of Penguin Cafe; pianist and composer Belle Chen; multi-instrumentalist-singer-songwriter Tawiah; contemporary Classical pianist Karim Kamar together with electronic artist Frank Hopkins; composer Narotam Horn; and a special performance by pioneer of Afrorave Toya Delazy, alongside contemporary dancer Fukiko Takase of Neon Dance.

The second installment of Piano Day at The National Gallery, the event is free to attend but does require a booking, which can be made on TNG's website here.
